Eligibility for Brigshaw Training and Development

The Department for Education (DfE) require all post-graduate ITT candidates to meet the following criteria before they enrol on an ITT programme.

GCSEs - 4 (C) or above in English & Maths (& Science if you want to teach Primary)

Degree - an undergraduate degree at class 2:2 or above, or equivalent

Right to work in the UK - You must have the right to work full-time in the UK. We are unable to sponsor visas.

Strong A-Levels or equivalents linked to the subject you want to teach

What are we looking for?

We understand that academic qualifications, while important, are not the only thing that makes a fantastic teacher. We know there are certain qualities that successful teachers possess, regardless of their background or experience.

At the BLP, we know that teachers, who ensure our children go on to live lives of choice and opportunity are reflective, driven and caring. We are looking to train to teachers who really believe that every child is capable of success regardless of their background and have bought into our common goal. You will be a role model for our students moulding them into responsible and polite citizens and igniting a passion for your subject so that they achieve excellent outcomes.

We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:

Alignment with our values and ethos, including a strong moral purpose for improving the lives of young people in East Leeds

A passion for their subject

Some experience with young people (it doesn’t need to be in school) and ability to form relationships inside and outside the classroom

Great communication skills

Resilience and creativity (teaching is hard!)

Great communication skills

Curiosity and an eagerness to learn

Self-awareness and ability to act on feedback to improve (you’ll receive lots of this during the programme)

Fluency in spoken and written English and suitability to train to teach, including meeting the required competencies by the end of the programme
