Why Train with us

By choosing the Brigshaw Learning Partnership, you'll join a community that is committed to ensuring every child enjoys a life of choice and opportunity.

Find a place where you belong

At the BLP, we're a family set on changing lives locally.  Not only will you quickly become an integral part of your school community, you'll also be part of something bigger.  We'll teach you how to form great relationships with students and their families so that your impact extends beyond the classroom.

Small, but mighty

We're proud of our national partnerships with world leaders in education.   As a Lead Partner of Ted Wragg Teacher Training and with our PGCE delivered by the University of Exeter, it goes without saying that our partners support us in delivering excellent teacher training.   We are also delighted to work with Steplab, a world-class coaching platform, that ensure our trainees receive excellent development every week.

At the forefront of teacher development

Based upon deliberate practice and instructional coaching, we use the latest research and evidence to inform our teacher training design and delivery.  Every week, you'll spend time developing great teacher habits in group rehearsal and will be coached by expert mentors.

What our trainee teachers say about us

Last year, Georgina decided to make a career change.
Her previous work experience had shown her how much she enjoyed developing others and she couldn't wait to make a difference in the classroom. We asked Georgina, 5 months into her teacher training, to share why she decided to change career and what it's like to train to teach with the BLP.
I knew it had to be Brigshaw
Whilst studying languages at the University of Leeds, Rona completed a placement at Brigshaw High School. She fell in love with the ethos of the school and the languages department and knew it would be the best place for her to complete her training.
A change of direction
After taking a short break from work after the birth of her youngest daughter, Sarah felt now was the right time to pursue a new path. She was drawn to the warmth and community feel of the BLP primaries.
Making a difference. Locally.
As someone who grew up and went to school in Kippax, Victoria looks back on her own school days fondly. When she decided to train to teach, she knew she wanted to make a difference to the local community.

What support will you receive?

Our expert leaders will be with you every step of the way.  Our programme includes:

Your school orientation experience – before you start, you will have the opportunity to meet your colleagues and interact with pupils so that you can hit the ground running in September.

Classroom teaching – from the get-go, you’ll be in the classroom so that you can learn and have an impact straight away.  You will observe, support, and team teach and also plan and deliver lessons for specific classes.  Your tutor and mentor will support you to build up your independent teaching time throughout the year.

Weekly instructional coaching and learning to plan – every week, you will be observed by your in-school mentor so that they can offer you positive feedback and bite-sized improvement targets.  Your mentor will help you to create effective lessons, developing your planning skills and giving you the opportunity to ask detailed subject-knowledge questions.

Weekly training – in-person training with your peers, including seminars and lectures to develop your knowledge of teaching theory and pedagogy and dedicated time for deliberate practice of critical teacher behaviours and habits.

Our Schools

Founded in 2016, The Brigshaw Learning Partnership is a family of seven schools, all committed to providing exceptional education for the East Leeds community.

You will be placed at one of our amazing schools for your main placement. From the get-go, you'll spend 4 days a week in this school and one day a week in training with your tutor and other trainees.

At some point in the year, you will complete a second school placement at another school (likely to be in the spring term). There will be additional opportunities to visit other educational settings throughout the year.
