What our trainee teachers say about us

Last year, Georgina decided to make a career change.
Her previous work experience had shown her how much she enjoyed developing others and she couldn't wait to make a difference in the classroom. We asked Georgina, 5 months into her teacher training, to share why she decided to change career and what it's like to train to teach with the BLP.
I knew it had to be Brigshaw
Whilst studying languages at the University of Leeds, Rona completed a placement at Brigshaw High School. She fell in love with the ethos of the school and the languages department and knew it would be the best place for her to complete her training.
A change of direction
After taking a short break from work after the birth of her youngest daughter, Sarah felt now was the right time to pursue a new path. She was drawn to the warmth and community feel of the BLP primaries.
Making a difference. Locally.
As someone who grew up and went to school in Kippax, Victoria looks back on her own school days fondly. When she decided to train to teach, she knew she wanted to make a difference to the local community.

How can I fund my training?

Government Bursaries

Bursaries are tax-free payments to help with the tuition fees and cost of living if you train in certain subjects. Find out more here.

Scholarships are awarded by organisations with a passion for their subject area. They combine tax-free payments with extra benefits.

Student & Maintenance Loans

Many trainees are eligible for student finance to cover fees and the cost of living in addition to the above government bursaries.  Find out more here.

Earning a Qualified Teacher Salary

Regardless of which funding route you take, once you secure qualified teacher status (QTS) you’ll get a minimum starting salary of £30,000 as a primary or secondary school teacher in England.

Our Schools

Founded in 2016, The Brigshaw Learning Partnership is a family of seven schools, all committed to providing exceptional education for the East Leeds community.

You will be placed at one of our amazing schools for your main placement. From the get-go, you'll spend 4 days a week in this school and one day a week in training with your tutor and other trainees.

At some point in the year, you will complete a second school placement at another school (likely to be in the spring term). There will be additional opportunities to visit other educational settings throughout the year.
